City on a Hill

City on a Hill occupies the former Zeeland Hospital building. It has 49 partners that utilize space in their building. In addition to the building, they have these services.

  • City on a Hill Cafe - serving food and staffed by residents from Benjamin's Hope and other organizations.
  • City on a Hill Clinic - offers free physical and mental health services to qualified patients.
  • City on a Hill Renewal - Retreat services utilizing their building.
  • Doors of Hope - Housing crisis response, life coaching, and transitional housing.

The latest Doors of Hope project is called Hope Ridge and is a Planned Unit Development of small footprint houses at the corner of 8th St and Waverly. The house designs were created by the Hope College civil engineering department in conjunction with Ottawa County. These designs are being made available at no charge for anyone to use. The size and construction materials have been carefully selected so that the housing cost doesn't exceed 20-30% of the target low-income group.

One of the goals of this development is to combat what has been labelled the "poverty of community". There will be shared storage areas, common parking, and green areas. The existing building will be renovated to provide kitchen and gathering areas. The intent is to rent to an intergenerational group.

Book House Monitors Needed Spring 2026

Our clubs need two or three new monitors for the Book House team. Your help will be appreciated with this search! Please chat with fellow Rotarians, friends, or even relatives—anyone who might make a great monitor.

If you find someone interested, just let me know and I’ll reach out to share the location and expectations with them.

Thanks so much for your help!
