Lunch with Leaders for the 21st Century

Members of the Rotary Club of Holland and Holland After Hours Rotary joined the middle school participants and counselors for lunch at Hope College. This was an opportunity for conversation and learning for all involved. Also present were counselors from some of the schools involved, and conference sponsors LMCU and MACC.

Holland City Mayor Nathan Bock spoke about service. He pointed out that there is a finite time and enthusiasm for each person. Mayor Bock's personal belief is that if you fill all of your time, you will not be able to accept new opportunities that you might really love.

The Mayor related that he has served on 15 different boards and commissions. None of this service brought any money, but it has brought meaning and connections to his life. He started by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity because he loves constructing things. He was eventually invited to serve on their board when they learned he is a real estate lawyer.
