Rotary Committee Reports

Sue Franz started the reports by (remotely) giving the background on the potential Global Grant project with the Igoma Tanzania Rotary Club. Project Zqwadi, founded by a former Peace Corps volunteer, works with schools to help students advance by tutoring and removing barriers and is also involved in the project.

The Rotary Club has conducted extensive research, incorporating community feedback, and has identified 3 schools with the greatest need for water projects. A local Tanzanian non-profit has the expertise to handle the water projects.

Kathy DeVries continued with the international report and noted that the committee is meeting next Wednesday. The committee will discuss the continuing HANWASH project and the proposed projects in Kenya and Tanzania.

Bob Nida talked about the Rotary Foundation supporting every service project, local and international. He reminded the club that every time you donate to the foundation, you receive points that can be redeemed toward a Paul Harris award.

Mike Moraw reported for the community service committee, which will be meeting the last Monday of every month. Recent projects have been the Holland Area Pet Memorial, Habitat for Humanity Vista Green, and the highway cleanup. They are looking for new projects.

Jim White reported for the Youth Services Committee. The Leaders for the 21st Century conference for middle schoolers went really well, as did the Life Leadership conference for high schoolers. Rotary Youth Exchange is still going strong. The Holland High School Interact Club is continuing its momentum. West Ottawa High School Interact Club is rebuilding after many of the leaders graduated. There is interest at Black River to form an Interact Club.

Bob Nida presented an overview of the newly revised constitution for the club, and it was approved unanimously.
